We Went Night Diving in Sydney Harbour – Rays, Cuttlefish, and Seahorse Hotels

Garmin is already a well-known outdoor instrument brand most often associated with GPS technology and running/fitness watches. Now they’re getting noticed for their dive computers. Their first computer, the Descent Mk1, was the first dive computer that integrated SCUBA diving functions with everyday use (like getting notifications from your smartphone and counting steps). We love Garmin dive products because they’re stylish and easy to use, but more importantly, they keep us safe while we’re exploring the dive sites and coral reefs we encounter on our ocean adventures.
The Decent Mk2 is Garmin’s flagship SCUBA diving computer, replacing their groundbreaking Decent Mk1. The Mk2 isn’t just a dive computer, it’s more like a life computer. It seamlessly combines the functions of a smartwatch and a dive computer so that you only have to wear and worry about one device. Gone are the days when you had to swap your smartwatch for a dive computer while you were gearing up, then change back after the dive. We love that this one device can give us a complete picture of our fitness levels since it can track our activities both above and below the water.
Don’t let its smartwatch features fool you – this is a powerful dive computer suitable for entry-level divers to expert divers. It has multiple dive modes to choose from including single and multi-gas dives (including nitrox and trimix), CCR, and freediving. As expected, since this is Garmin we’re talking about, the GPS support for the Mk2 is outstanding. Its advanced satellite connectivity means that we can see our exact entry and exit points on a digital map, making repeated dives on the same site a total breeze.
Garmin’s approach to the digital transmission of tank data while underwater is incredibly well thought out and designed and gives each of our dive team members extra peace of mind while exploring the depths. The Decent T1 connects easily to the first stage on any regulator setup and when connected to a Decent computer, it allows you to monitor your tank pressure, estimated remaining air time, and air consumption rate, right from your wrist.
The Decent T1 is also an extremely useful device to the dive team as a whole since you can connect up to 5 transmitters to each compatible Decent dive computer. This means that you can easily monitor the tank pressure for each of your fellow scuba divers without stopping and asking. With all team members able to monitor air levels for the entire team, we feel safer underwater and have more control over our SCUBA diving.
